Padman, a movie inspired by a real-life event, tells the story of a man who sets out to manufacture low-cost sanitary pads after knowing that his wife is using rags during her monthly cycle. As movies have the power to create a lasting impression on their viewers, Rooster Logic surveyed a group of moviegoers in four different malls of Kathmandu Valley to understand the perception of Padman among the urban Nepali population. The survey was carried out on 17 and 18 Feb 2018.
Convenience sampling was used to identify the respondents who had watched the movie in four different malls with cinema outlets in Kathmandu and Lalitpur district. The respondent selection was inclusive of the male and female population and all age groups above 16. The sample size was derived by taking the population of Kathmandu and Lalitpur, and getting the required samples as per the KREJCIE-MORGAN chart also considering a 5 percent margin of error. The total sample size for this survey was 401.
The outcome of the survey
Through the survey, we can see that the movie had a positive impact on the people. Padman provided a better understanding of Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) to the males who had watched the movie ensuring that they will become an advocate of MHM practice in the future.
